My daughter came along to the workshop with me over the weekend and was a model. Here are a few that I took of her while there.

Drive By Shooting

Here are a couple more I took on our trip home. Instead of being shot through the windshield, these were taken out the passenger side window as my husband was driving. It was a beautiful sunset over the Delaware River.

This billboard just made me giggle...

More Dashboard Photography

I went to a photography workshop held in Pittsburgh this past weekend. I will be posting images from the workshop in the next couple of weeks. My daughter was one of the models so you will probably see her first.

While we were driving home, I put my camera on the dashboard and took some more images. This time I wasn't driving though. My husband was so it was not so dangerous! I had fun editing these.

Lesson - Light and Shadow

Paying attention to light and shadow is essential in capturing a portrait. I am going to show an example of how using the placement of light and shadow on a subject can do wonders for a facial feature or it can do the opposite.

In this example, the subject (who happens to be my oldest son) has one nostril that is larger then the other. Usually this is not very noticable but when taking his portrait the placement of him in relation to the light source is very important.

As you can see in the first example, his nose looks quite curved toward the right. However, when the light source if coming in from the opposite direction, casting the shadow on the other side of his nose, his nose looks straight.

It is important to pay attention to these details when preparing to take a portrait. Look at your subject, find the best angle and figure out the best way to have the light fall on them. Use shadows to flatter them.

Quote of the Week - Jon Gosselin

I thought I would share my favorite quote I heard this week. My daughter and I love to watch Jon and Kate Plus 8 on TLC. Jon and Kate played hide and seek with their kids and Jon was the last one found. He said a simple sentence that made me laugh, hearing it come from a grown man...
"I rock at hide-n-seek." by Jon Gosselin
